Hi Dan,

Great stuff. Very pleased you are using the U-Brass set. Glad we added the cheek parts for the VIIB pattern now.

On VIIBs there were four inlet covers on the bottom of the saddle tanks (as opposed to the three on VIICs). Also the bar below (which I think the inlet covers rested upon when they were in the open position) is wrong on the Revell kit. Most annoying...

Lastly the oval shaped thingies on the top of the saddle tanks. VIIBs had three per side whereas VIICs had 5 per side. They are sometimes referred to as outlet valves but they were undoubtedly manhole inspection covers. In fact I've seen a photo of one man inside the manhole in the saddle tank while at sea. A tight squeeze!

The kit I have is above the waterline only, in 35th scale. So I'll have to make the water, which I've not done before. Accurate Armour sell the VIIC kit at -

Their factory is only ten miles away from me, as it happens. If you look at the pics of their tower on their website you'll see a decal in white which reads "66587 to."  That is for U 47, which had that figure on the tower on returning from the 6th patrol.

Cheers,

Dougie

 Hi Dougy!

I asked my father about the saddle tank holes. He said they were for inspection and cleaning the saddle tanks. Not my idea of a nice job! Do you have a picture of how the keel should be on the Type VII B? I have added the 4th vent cover on the lowe hull.  I also removed the extea small vents on the Revell hull as the "B" did not have them.  Thanks for the help.

Best Regards my Friend!

Hi Dan,

I have a scanned image of U 99 in dry dock which should help. The 4 vents are actually open in the image. Could you send me a message to my email and I'll send it through with a Pillkoppen drawing?

Cheers mate,

Dougie
