Hi Again Mike!
I should look into that. I have always wanted to do something along those lines. With all the help from the great people on this fourm I beleive it could be done. I would need a better digital camera. The one I have would not be able to do the job on the close detail shots needed to do something like that. I will think about it. I would of course sign one for you and my Kameraden on U47! The wintergarten on my Type VIID/41 project is still in the rough stages. I have two large gaps to fill with epoxy puddy on the port and starbord sides where the mine shaft housing meets the extended wintergarden. I am waiting for the epoxy puddy from Hong Kong. I pray it gets here soon!!
Regards mein Kamerad!

Guten Tag Mein Kameraden!
Still waiting for the epoxy putty from Hong Kong! It is rough ordering everything on line you need to work! My local Hobby Shop closed last month ! The nearest one is in Souix Falls, South Dakota, 2 hours drive, or in the Twin Cities which is 3 hours away!! So I must wait!! I
have done some more work on my U-47 tower. I filled in the gaps left from the VIIC-VIIB side vents, and I placed my scratch built UZO on deck. I an also working on the conversion of the Nautlis wood deck to fit my B hull. That is done. Now I am working to get all the detail on the deck; hatches etc...
Regards,

My hobby shop shop closed three years ago so I know how you feel, it was only a five minute walk away. A sad day there I'll tell ya. My nearest one is now over an hour away in Green Bay. On the bright side though there are three shops in town.
I'm curious though Dan, you couldn't find epoxy putty here in the states???

Yes, I guess I can, but like I said, I am in the middle of the Great Prarie and not close to anything!! By the time I get in the car, drive for two or three hours it is actually cheaper for me to get what I need on E-Bay!!!
Souix Falls has one decent Hobby shop. The Twin Cities has two or three!
Regards, My Friends!

Hello All!
I now have the hull sides together using the Revell C/41 kit hulls and the Special Navy Type D Extensions! Just to let you know the hull on this model now measures 106 cm! This is going to be one big boat! I am glad I bought the new Nautilus Wood deck for this Type D. They give a much better set of instructions to cut the hull sections than Special Navy. So if you are thinking about doing this conversion, I highly recomend getting the Nautilus product for the deck. Really a nice job!! More as I go....
Regards,

More good stuff!
I am now done with the Conning Tower of my U-218 project! I still have to paint it. So now I go back to the hull. I will now cut the vents out and replace them with the photo-etched vents. Modelbrass is the only company that makes these in PE and they are a must for any 1/72 Type VII U-Boat. After that comes a scratch built Pressure Hull. Why scratch built you ask ? Because the Resin kit pressure hull is not long enough for a Type VII D, thats why! So I have much work ahead of me!!
More to come....

Guten Tag Mein Kameraden!
I had some time this weekend to work on the U-218 project. I redid the weld seems on both sides of the hulls now. I also did some cutting with my trusty Dremel Tool and cut out and replaced the Trop. Cheeks and moved the Anchor slot to correct the Revell VIIC/41 kit. (Thanks Dougie!) The bow intake vents on the type D were different than on any Type VII. I found 1 pic on the U-218 web site that had a decent shot of the starbord side of the upper hull. It shows 3 round holes near the nose area for vents. So I filled the three slot vents, and drilled the three holes for the Type D vents.
Tonight I will start on the scratch built Pressure hull for this monster U-boot!
More to Come.....

Hello Kameraden!
I have been working on the scratch-built pressure hull for the Type D. Almost finished with the rough out of it now. I have one more section to cover yet. I am using .10 mill sheets of plastic to cover the bulkhead supports and center spline. I will then place this in the hull of the Boot and glue the two hull halves together.
Next will come the detail on the top of the pressure hull and the detail for the upper hull sides.
More to come......

Guten Tag mein Kameraden!
I now have the hull together. It is beginning to look like a Boot! I will now start to work on the inside details on the top of the pressure hull. Because this is a Minelayer, I will have to put in the mine shafts that will show through the vent openings. I will also have to scratch build part of the conning tower pressure hull for the same reason. I am going to include some piping and hydo lines etc.. You may not be able to see all this work, but the idea is to have something there instead of air!!
More to come......
Regards,
