Hello All!

I now have the detail done on the top of the pressure hull!So now I start to work on inside details for the large open vents on the sides of the Boot! I will have to canniblize the upper hull pieces to place the P.E detail panels with the smaller vent holes. I will also have to scratch build the many vent ports for the upper hull sides. This will take alot of work, but it will be really nice when done. As you can tell there is more to do than just drill out the hull vents when detailing one of these boats,  After that the deck detailing is next.

More to come......

  Hi Dan

I have to ask, Do you ever say to yourself, "Wow, I've created a monster" and set a project aside and start on something else? Just to take a break? I do that with my armor on occasion.

Also, what is your least favorite part of a build? Mine is (again with armor) individual track links, I just do not like sitting there fitting 200 links together. There's no better way to do tracks, and I really like the look when done but sometimes it's hard to build up any enthusiasm to sit down and get it done.

Wow!

After building models for 40 years now, I would have to say yes. I will start another project or start the research for a new project.  A good example of this are my two U-Boat projects I am working on presently. My Late U-47 and my U-218. I still have some work to finish up the U-47. I am still working on the Type VII D/42.  I have along way to go on that. I also work on armor, and I have three projects ongoing there. I have a Panzer IIC with complete scratch built interior I am working on. A Panzer IV D Bridge-layer, and a Panzer IV J Late I am working on. I plan to convert the IV J to the Syrian Army version. So there are my present ongoing projects.

My worst part of a U-Boot build would have to be the opening of all the vents using my trusty Dremel Tool I hate all the plastic dust and little bits all over!

There you go! I hope I answered your questions!

Regards My Friend!

If this is the 1/35 Dragon kit it's a good one. I just got done with mine not two weeks ago. I don't know how far along you are but watch for warpage on the back hull, "engine deck". It's not a big problem but maybe I can save you some putty!

Hello All !

I ran into a bit of a design error on the upper hull slot vents on my U-218 project! So now I must adjust the upper hull pieces to fit the deck.  This is the first problem I have encountered on this project! Really not too bad considereing I am building the first Type VIID/42 that I know of in 1/72 scale!

Regards,

More progress on the U-218 project. I had to really sit down and do some decision making and some math. The problem was that the upper hull area starting at the cruve of the mine shaft area would not match up with the deck. So I had to cut 1.5 cm from the upper hull pieces and move the curved area foward. Then I had to replace that 1.5 cm area at the front of each side! Sounds complicated!!  Believe me I had to scratch my head a few times on this one!! But now I think I am ready to place the deck on !

Next will be all the deck details and painting the Conning Tower  it's base colour of Dunkelgrau 52.  This will be done before I glue the Tower to the deck.   More to come......

Regards,
