Well I thought in the meantime I might list the currents leads I have on this boat.
-The boat was completed and commissioned in the earlier months of 1939 (commission date: Feb 4th) so it makes one of the earlier U-boats built.
-U-52, of type VIIb, was sailed by commanders Oblt Wolfgang Barten, Kptlt Otto Salman and Kptlt Helmut Mohlman.
-Number of ships sunk: 13, all by Kptlt Otto Salman who took the boat for its first war partol.
-U-52 was stricken in October of 1943 and unlilke other boats, it was scuttled in Danzig and later broken up.
The boat also sailed along U-47 in one of Prien wolfpacks along with U-101.
As for additional information such as the boat emblem, one of the folks at the Uboat.net forum found a picture of the boat with an emblem of a "red shield" with sword surrounded by a "wedding ring" I found that this emblem was also used by U-81 (?) but with a black shield instead of red.
U-81? U-52
Now here is where it gets confusing, if the picture of the boat found showing this emblem was black and white, must have been quite hard to distinguish the red colour in b/w because red and black almost have the same shading and darkness when showed in b/w.
Hopefully this provides more info!
