Whew!! It's about time I updated this post! Sorry guys for not showing up earlier, we had a massive clean-up of the house last week and I couldn't get time to work on my boat... but this is all finished now! Here are the most recent pictures of the boat's build-up, I have built the electronic component tray that will house all of the electronics inside the pressure hull. As you can see in the pictures bellow, the propulsion unit has been completed as well, the motor I the one that I salvaged from the broken printer, and the gearbox (which literally saved a heck of a lot of time building!) has been coupled to the motor shaft as well. I haven't tested the system yet, you can see in the picture that one of the wires is missing! Anyways, enjoy these for now:
The overall layout of the tray, bow to stern: left to right.
Top view of the tray, with the gearbox showing coupled to the motor.
Here's the close-up of the propulsion unit, I know that the gearbox's edges are a bit rought, that's because I had to trim them up to allow it to fit inside the boat, more sanding should even it up...
Close-up of the same view, there are 3 gears, unfortunately, I coudn't find an even pair of gears (white one) to make the shaft counter-rotationg as in the real boat, but other people have told me that even with the shaft rotating in the same direction, this shouldn't make a difference in the boat's run.
Another shot, profile view this time, I'm planning to couple the motor up to a 9.6 Volt battery, which will be located further up in the component tray.
Ahh, a nice clear view of the motor mount and the gearbox, with U-boat books in the background! Hey, every modeller has to have some references on his workbench!
