I tried for an armor MOS but there were no openings. This was in 1981 and the Abrahms was the new kid on the block. I wanted to be a driver. Then the recruiter asked me if I wanted to be an Ammunition Specialist (55B), so I went home and thought about it and decided why not, I come from a small town in Wisconsin 'population 500' and there was absolutely nothing going on. This was in January of 81 and I was 22 yo at the time. So I said yes. The recruiter said I have three different posts you can go to, Alaska, Germany or Hawaii, yup you guessed it, so I ended up in the 25th Inf. Div. at Schofield Barracks HI. I spent the bulk of my enlistment there, (2yrs, eight months and 11 days). Now I look back and think 'I could be retired now". I just looked back at your post, I was still in, in 84, just two months but I was serving when the barracks were bombed in Lebabnon. I have to go now but would be happy to continue conversation if you like, I have a question for you now. You served 10, you were half way there, why did you get out?
