My Father and Mother came here in 1949 because the company he worked for asked him to move.  Germany in 1949 was still trying to recover from the war.  We have returned to Germany many times since then. I can remember many times going to Nurmberg at Christmas time.  I still have some relatives living in Munchen and Nurmberg.  I also had an Uncle who fought in Russia.  He is no longer living.  Too bad you never met your Grandfather.

I can speak German better than writing it. We still speak German when I am home.  But most of the time English if we have someone there who doesn't speak German.  I also speak Geramn when I talk to my mother on the phone. My Father learned English in the POW camp there in New York.  He loves Germany but he and my mother are now US Citizens.  My father still recieves a pention from the German Government for his war service.  I also love Germany because it is my Familie's Home.

So good to write to you Daniele,

Best Regards,

Dear Dan,

thanks for your answering. I hope I find the right words to you. At home or in the job, I never need the english language.  So it´s hard to write in english. Sometimes I write to my cousin in Canada. My uncle goes to Canada in the sixtees but he and my aunt doesn´t learn their childs german. I don´t know why.  We have visit my uncle in Canada to the weddings from my cousins, so I must speak english, and it was OK. We live in Werlte, near Osnabrück and Oldenburg. It´s a small city and near to the northsea, one hour to drive to the sea.  You are often in germany. Only for working or visiting families ?

I often watch on the internet for informations about the U-848. I hope I find some people who can say that he has meet my grandfather, or a child who say that his father was a friend from him.

I try to carry a family tree together from both sides of my parents. Only by the Internet we have got to know only from the whereabouts of my grandfather. Some people have send me photos from the Paddle of the raft on those he his name scratched. It was hard for my father to see this.

Thanks a lot for your answering and I hope you understand my english.

Best regards

Daniele

 Hello Again Daniele,

Your English is really very good. I teach English to others who which to speak English as a secong language. I teach many people to speak english.  You live in an area of Germany I have not been. The farthest north I have been is Hanover.  I was in Germany last year to visit my Aunt and cousins in Munchen.  They also have family which I have not met yet.  My Grandfather was in the Great War, 1914-1918. He was an infantryman in the German Army.  Germany is a wonderful place for me.  I have studied it's history for many years.  Good to talk with you again!

Best Regards Daniele,

Hello Dan,

My mother are from Oberschlesien near Oppeln ( now its poland ) His father was after the war in Lamsdorf ( ein Konzentrationslager der Polen für Deutsche ) It was the horror. My mother emegrate 1945 from Oberschlesien to Bayern near Landshut. She was 4 years old. My father was born in Danzig, his father has got their crew from the U-848 in Danzig, so my grandma meet him there. Originaly he was born in Duesseldorf. After the war she went with my father to Bochum and my mother goes with her famliy in the 50th to Witten, near Bochum ( Ruhrgebiet ). In 2001 we change our home from Witten to Werlte. So I live here with my son, his english is good to.

The II War was for all families of the world terrible. Mostly doesn´t find together. If you know, one of your familie was died, it´s better to didn´t know if he live or is he died. My mother is looking for his brother. He is lost in the war and I have tried to find him. But now office can tell us if he die or what. His body is never found. We thin he was in Russland.

If you want to write me more, you can write me on my e-mai address if you want.   daniele.schade@freenet.de
