This is what I have found so far. At least it gives some other names to chase down.
Gunther-Heinrich Prien, the son of an art instructor and judge, was born in Osterfeld, Thuringia
(a state in central Germany) on 16 January 1908. He was the eldest of
three children. His parents divorced sometime after he was born and his
mother, Clara Emma Margarete Schalck, remarried to Max Gustav Bohstedt.
Through this second marriage there were two siblings:
half-sister, Margarete Elisabeth-Charlotte Bohstedt and
half-brother,Hans-Joachim Bohstedt . Both of these siblings were born
while Gunther grew up in the Baltic seaport of Lubeck. From my research the family must have moved either in 1919 or in the early 1920's to Leipzig where his mother worked as an art instructor at a university.
There isn't too much more reliable information on his childhood. I do
not care to lean too heavily on the ghost written book by Paul Weymar
stating about selling lace goods while his mother made paintings for
money.

Bohstedt (Achim) L.z.S. U 389. Born 27. June 1920. Died 5. October 1943
(depth charge attack) - aged 23.
Half-Sister: Lieselotte Bohstedt
(Born - Margarete Elisabeth-Charlotte Bohstedt) - baptized on 24. April
1918, born 30. October 1917.
Wife Ingeborg and one of the daughters (either Birgit or Dagmar)
