Since the release of its highly limited collaboration with Prada, the Shop Adidas Superstar can’t seem to let its momentum die out anytime soon as it keeps showing up in multiple unique forms. From a see-through collaboration with Blondey McCoy to a Chinese New Year rendition to dressing up with your favorite Pokemon characters, the iconic shell-toe silhouette keeps upping the diversity of its lineage by the week.
Deviating from its louder commemorative takes found on the Solar Hu and Crazy BYW, adidas is set to release a mostly-white Superstar for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Sharing the silhouette with the rodent, three water color-like graphics depicting a crane, tiger, and koi fish appear throughout the sneaker, although the latter two animals alternate between left and right shoe.
After dressing up the Aloha Super earlier in the year, the skate legend is finally returning to the beloved Adidas Superstar Sale. Here, Gonzales dresses the silhouette near entirely in “Core Black.” Everything from the leather upper to the tongue, shell toe, lining, and tooling is done up in the neutral. This allows for the “Schmoo” birds to more easily take flight, their nubuck patches pronounced not just in texture but also their neon-tinged outlines.
Symbolic of longevity and peace, the feathered-bird on the lateral side midfoot has been adorned with a red beak and crown, as well as blue gradient feathers in a style resembling traditional Chinese painting. Rounding out the trifecta, a pink koi-fish – representative of good fortune – takes over much of the heel on the right shoe in a pinkish-purple palette also done in a water-color effect.
The signature side stripes and heel tab are colored in a pastel “Purple Tint” hue. Men's/Women's Adidas Superstar Metallic gold further animates the design as it adds a glistening finish to branded elements on the tongue, heel tab, and lateral side. The most defining feature would be the embroidered trefoil patches applied to the hindfoot of the lateral side. These patches exhibit shades of pink and purple for a gradient effect while their overlapping positions create a shadowed look—a stylization of the trefoil logo that has appeared on both adidas apparel and footwear.
