St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexander Steen had
two goals and one assist in his return, helping the St.
Louis Blues post a 6-3 win over the New York Islanders at
Scottrade Center on Thursday. Steen, who missed the
previous two games with a lower-body injury, provided an
immediate spark and his second tally ignited four-goal
third period that carried the Blues to their third
straight win. I thought (Steen) was real good. I thought
that line was real good. Set the tempo early in the game.
Set the tempo in the third period, said St. Louis head
coach Ken Hitchcock. T.J. Oshie had a goal with two
assists and Jake Allen made 25 saves. John Tavares and
Mikhail Grabovski scored in the second period for the
Islanders, who have lost three games in a row. Former
Blue Jaroslav Halak allowed five goals on 32 shots. We
didnt really grasp it. said Tavares. Sometimes we just
have to make the plays a little quicker. Steen gave the
Blues a 3-2 lead at 4:32 of the third when he came in as
a trailer on a rush fired a rebound past Halak. Oshie
scored from the bottom of the left circle off Patrik
Berglunds pass from behind the net with 4:13 remaining.
Kyle Okposo lit the lamp for the Islanders 28 seconds
after Paul Stastnys power-play goal made it 5-2 with 2:12
remaining, but an empty-net goal by Jaden Schwartz with
1:04 left sealed St. Louis fifth straight win in the
series. Steen scored a power-play goal 5:58 into the
game. He beat Halak on a blast from the point after nice
puck movement gave him plenty of room to wind up. Barret
Jackman gave St. Louis 2-0 with 5:42 remaining in the
first period when he fired a slap shot off a pass from
Steen past Halaks glove. The Islanders battled back with
two late goals in the middle stanza. Tavares moved to the
middle following a faceoff win and fired a wrist shot
through Allens five-hole with 3:57 remaining. Grabovski
then beat the Blues to a loose puck after another faceoff
and scored on a wrist shot from the slot with 5.3 seconds
left. Game Notes Stastny has four goals in the last three
games ... The Islanders have been outscored 20-6 during a
four-game road skid in the series ... St. Louis improved
to 10-1-1 in its last 12 home games ... Oshie has four
goals and eight assists during a six-game point streak
against the Islanders ... Blues defenseman Jay
Bouwmeester (groin) was activated from injured reserve
after missing eight games. Defenseman Carl Gunnarsson
(concussion) was placed on IR to create room on the
active roster for Bouwmeester.

. Speaking on TSN Radio 1050s TSN Drive with
Dave Naylor on Monday, Colangelo said he had no intention
of tanking the shortened 2011-12 season, but definitely
wanted a high pick in the draft. "I wish that word wasnt
used for headline reasons," said Colangelo, "but the
story behind it was: how can we fix the system? How can
we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are
rewarded for losing records? "I do believe that if youre
as transparent as we were at the time - with our season
seat holders, our fans, the market place and the media -
everybody knew what the plan was and what we were going
through.Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelly Oubre,
Jr. posted 19 points to go with nine rebounds, as No. 11
Kansas put together a late rally to subdue 19th- ranked
Oklahoma, 85-78, in a battle of long-time conference
rivals from Allen Fieldhouse. Perry Ellis totaled 16
points and eight boards for the Jayhawks (15-3, 4-1 Big
12), while Cliff Alexander contributed 13 points and 13
rebounds for the hosts. Buddy Hields game-high 26 points
wasnt enough for the Sooners (12-6, 2-4). Isaiah Cousins
had 18 points and Ryan Spangler picked up 13 with 10
rebounds in defeat. Kansas held a 39-19 lead in the first
half, but Oklahoma completely reversed momentum thanks to
an extended 22-11 run in the second half which ended on a
three-point play by Hield which gave the visitors a 69-65
advantage inside five minutes left in regulation. The
Jayhawks didnt assume the lead again until a triple from
Brannen Green produced a 73-71 edge with 3:24 to play off
a missed field goal from Oubre. Frank Mason followed with
a bucket and a four-point margin before Cousins converted
from long distance on the Sooners next touch. But the
hoosts got some breathing room on Alexanders slam and an
Oubre jumper sandwiched around back-to-back misses from
beyond the arc by Hield and Cousins.dddddddddddd. Hield
made two free throws to close Oklahomas gap to 79-76, but
Oubre hit an easy layup with 55 seconds to go and the
visitors never threatened down the stretch. Kansas
established the outside game early on, connecting on six
consecutive treys which ballooned its lead from 10-9 to
39-19 with 8:18 left in the first half. Devonte Graham
hit the final shot from distance in the mega run. Wayne
Seldens bucket gave the Jayhawks a 51-32 lead at the
break, and when Jordan Woodard capped a three-point play
just over five minutes into the second half, the Sooners
deficit was finally below double digits at 53-44. Game
Notes Kansas shot a blistering 10-of-19 from long range
and connected on 29- of-60 shots from the field overall
(48.3 percent) ... Oklahoma converted 18- of-21 free
throws but the Jayhawks were good on just 17-of-25 ...
The Sooners dished out 13 assists as a team but committed
13 turnovers. Jerseys
