ATLANTA - Julio Teheran pitched a six-hitter for his
second shutout of the season, Justin Upton had three RBIs
and the Atlanta Braves won their third in a row, beating
the slumping Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 Tuesday night. It was
another laugher in the matchup between first-place teams,
the Braves jumping ahead with three runs in the third and
cruising to victory after opening the series with a 9-3
rout. The Brewers have lost four in a row overall, their
longest skid of 2014. Teheran (3-3) bounced back from the
shortest start of his career at San Francisco, where he
lasted just 3 1-3 innings in a 10-4 loss. The right-
hander pitched his first career shutout last month,
beating Philadelphia 1-0 with a three-hitter. Upton had a
two-run single in the third and his 12th homer in the
fifth, a solo shot. Yovani Gallardo (2-3) took a painful
loss. He left the game in the fourth after twisting his
left ankle jumping for a high chopper up the middle,
extending his winless streak to more than six weeks.
Gallardo hasnt been credited with a win since April 6 at
Boston, his second start of the season. Since then, he is
0-3 with five no-decisions, despite allowing no more than
four earned runs in any of those appearances. Andrelton
Simmons put the Braves ahead in the third with his fourth
homer, a drive into the left-field seats. Simmons was in
the middle of things again in the fourth, pulling off a
heads-up play on the basepaths. After B.J. Upton worked
Gallardo for a walk, Simmons hit a high bouncer off
second base, the ball rolling into short left field.
Second baseman Scooter Gennett chased it down, then
lazily threw it in to the third baseman. Simmons took off
from first and appeared to get a hand in ahead of the tag
with a tumbling slide. The umpire initially called
Simmons out, but the call was overturned after Braves
manager Fredi Gonzalez challenged. The review took 2
minutes, 15 seconds. Teheran followed with another hopper
over the mound, the ball bouncing away when Gennett and
shortstop Jean Segura got tangled up trying to make the
play. Upton came in to score, Gennett was charged with an
error, and Gallardo came up limping after leaping for the
ball and coming down awkwardly on his left foot. He was
done for the night. Notes: The Braves scratched C Evan
Gattis, who had been scheduled to hit cleanup, just
before the first pitch because of "viral symptoms."
Ramiro Pena moved up from eighth to second in the revised
batting order, with Justin Upton sliding down to hit
cleanup. Gerald Laird took over at catcher, hitting
eighth. ... Brewers RHP Jim Henderson (shoulder) is
scheduled to make a rehab appearance Friday for Double-A
Huntsville (AL). The tentative plan is for Henderson to
make three outing in the minors so he can go multiple
innings as a long reliever for Milwaukee. ... Braves IF
Tyler Pastornicky will need a few more days to get over a
left calf injury. The problem flared up again when he
took batting practice Monday. ... Milwaukee 3B Aramis
Ramirez (left hamstring) ran for a second straight day
but still feels some pain. "I think its encouraging,"
manager Ron Roenicke said. Ramirez is on the 15-day
disabled list. ... A child sitting behind the Braves
dugout was struck when Carlos Gomez fouled off a line
drive in the seventh inning. Teheran grimaced and sank
into a crouch when he saw what happened, and Gomez also
looked toward the stands with concern. The child was
hustled out of the stands for medical treatment. There
was no immediate word on the condition.

. According to TSN Hockey
Insider Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs have trade offers
on the table for the 26-year-old, but none have been
deemed acceptable by the team.

about a playoff schedule that allowed them to open a
best-of-seven series on the road, which many claim to
favour, yet still gave them the precious home-ice edge
for a seventh game.

pointless droughts when they each scored two goals in a
6-4 victory over the Winnipeg Jets that halted a two-game
losing skid for the Stars (15-11-5).

Wiggins owned the end of Parkers impressive homecoming.
The Kansas star scored 16 of his 22 points in the second
half, outplaying Parker down the stretch and helping the
fifth-ranked Jayhawks knock off No.It was a classic
mismatch on paper. The 11th-ranked Latvians pitted
against the powerhouse Swedes. The 2006 Turin gold
medallists versus the last-place finishers from the 2010
Vancouver Games. But Team Sweden had its hands full in
booking its spot in the quarter-finals of the 2014 Sochi
Winter Olympics Saturday, earning a hard-fought 5-3 win
over the pesky Latvian side. Erik Karlsson, Daniel
Alfredsson and Alex Edler each had a goal and assist for
Team Sweden at Shayba Arena. Sweden (3-0), which finished
its round-robin atop Group C, was also fuelled by goals
from Patrik Berglund and Jimmie Ericsson. The Swedes were
spectacular with the man advantage, going 4-for-5 on the
power play. Karlsson now has five points (three goals,
two assists) in three games in Sochi. Janis Sprukts had a
goal and assist, while Lauris Darzins and Zemgus
Girgensons – the only current NHLer on the team – also
scored for Latvia (0-3), which went 2-for-4 on the power
play. Sweden came into the game as heavy favourites,
boasting much more NHL and international experience. But
Latvia, coached by Buffalo Sabres bench boss Ted Nolan,
found a way to level things out on the ice, never
quitting with some energetic and feisty play. Latvian
netminder Kristers Gudlevskis didnt look like a goalie
making his first Olympic appearance, either. He was
poised, calm and collected in making 25 stops on 30
shots. Perhaps his best came off the stick of Loui
Eriksson in the third period. Gudlevskis was seemingly at
the mercy of Daniel Sedin, who sent a cross-crease pass
to a wide-open Eriksson. But the Latvian goalie was up to
the task and stretched out to steal what looked like a
sure goal from tthe Bruins winger.dddddddddddd Latvia
kept the Swedes on their toes throughout the game,
trading scoring chances and forcing Lundqvist to make
several tough stops throughout the game. The New York
Rangers netminder finished with 20 saves and helped keep
the Latvian attack at bay. The Swedes broke through and
opened the scoring on a power play at 15:50 of the first
period while Krisjanis Redlihs was in the penalty box,
with Berglund redirecting a Karlsson point shot into the
back of the net. Latvia tied it 1-1 on a spectacular
passing play fuelled by Janis Sprukts. From his own blue-
line, he did his best Chris Pronger impression and sent a
tape-to-tape long pass to Kristaps Sotnieks, who found a
streaking Lauris Darzins. The 29-year-old showed
excellent patience in outwaiting his world-class
counterpart Lundqvist, beating him with a sneaky backhand
move. The short-handed Swedes were already without the
services of one of their top snipers in Henrik
Zetterberg, who was forced to pull out of the Winter
Games with a herniated disc in his back. The Swedish Ice
Hockey Federation announced the injury after Swedens 4-2
victory over the Czech Republic Thursday. But it was just
another in a list of star forwards to drop out of the
Games with health issues. Vancouver Canucks captain
Henrik Sedin pulled out of Sochi on the eve of the
Olympics with a rib injury. The normally durable 33-year-
old had his National Hockey League ironman streak snapped
at 679 games last month, a franchise best in Vancouver.
Detroit Red Wings workhorse Johan Franzen, a key presence
in front of the net unafraid to get physical, is also on
the injury list for Sweden with a concussion.
