New high resolution images of the Royal Oak have been released this week. Primarily to monitor the condition of the ship, as it continues to leak oil into Scap Flow. Looks intact basically. and there is a hole visible that could be a torpedo hole

According to this site http://www.btinternet.com/~warship/Feature/oak.htm it lies 90 feet below the surface. I thought it was more towards 40 meters (120 feet) but I could be mistaken. More 3D sonar images: http://www.divernet.com/cgi-bin/articles.pl?id=5561&sect ion=1023&action=display Cool! I've dived most of them, except the Markgraff < =text/>

So you wiuld need some special gear to dive that far. But it could be done. Right?

No special diving equipmen needed, recreational scuba diving is to 40 meters. The top of the hull only is 5 meters below the surface. BUT, nobody is allowed to dive the wreck. It's a well guarded war grave. Once a year, a memorial dive is made to the wreck to change the flag that is still waving from the hull. The old flag is cleaned and given to an organisation that deserves such an honour. Look at page 5 of this pdf for a pictre of that great sight! http://www.hmsroyaloak.co.uk/RO.pdf

 Hi

That is really neat!  The flag is awsome! It would be a great honor to have one indeed!

Regards,

That is really something special! The grandson bringing his grandmothers remains down to be reunited with her husband is touching also.
