I think that "K-19: The Widowmaker" is a good piece of cinematography, even though tracts of it are somewhat cliche'd. You watch the Reactor Sequence and tell me it doesn't send a shiver down your spine. Damned Russian folk music can be ungodly creepy at times.

Das Boot is probably the single best sub film I've ever seen. "Down Persicope" is a comedy, a rather funny one at that. The Hunt For Red October is one of my "cult" films.

The Enemy Below, as far as I've seen it (about an hour, segments from here and there) is a great film too.

Das Boot has to be the top sub film ever made.  U-577 would have been good if they had done their homework.  The movie about the CSS Hunley was fair to good.  There are so many great stories about subs. They should make a movie about U-47 . It would be a great story.

 I don't know why they haven't done it by now? The story of U-47 would have alot of drama in it.  The war scenes would be great! The scene of U-47 letting the Freighter go would show that the German Subs just didn't go around sinking everything in site.  The drama of the last partol and the lose of U-47 would make a great final scene!  What do you think?

I think it is difficult to make a film about a real u-boat.

The movie “Das Boot” was a movie about experiences from a lot of boats. The people from U-96 in the movie don’t exist.

But how do you constitute Prien in the movie? Who knows the real Prien? Was he a hero or a killer (he killed with his boat nearly 2000 people)?

With the imaginary captain (Der Alte) Lothar-Günther Buchheim/ Wolfgang Petersen could show the lunacy of the U-boar war.

And I think nobody needs a movie like the movie “U-571”

First, I would not generalize U-Boat Captians as "killers". Remember this was war. And during war people die. It is a fact of History. There are many cases when U-boats saved lives or at least tried to do so.  Prien was a loyal German of the time.  I am not going to get into the "was he a Nazi" thing! He was awarded the Knights Cross. That makes him a Hero in any book!  My father was in the Kriegsmarine, but he was never a Party member. He was a loyal German for the time.  He was awarded the Iron Cross First Class. That makes him a hero too. The movie Das Boot was based on true facts, minus some of the authors and the directors imput.  The story of U-47 on the screen would be refreshing. If the movie would be based on fact as Das Boot was.  U-571 had some truth in it but very little.  It was entertaining at least.  I think a scene with Prien and his crew meeting Hitler and then lunch with him would be great. The emotions of the crew in the actual pictures could be drawn out in the movie.  Things like that would make the movie stand out.  The drama of the patrol to sink Royal Oak, the lack of drama on the 9th patrol, then the final 10th patrol and the final lose of U-47. I think if done right, would make a great movie!
