I wasn't sure where to put this message. So I opted for the safest place possible. This will give you a much better understanding of the Enigma machine and how complex and yet simple it was.

Link here and the documentation for this is excellent. I managed to become decently proeficient at it in about an hour. Great time-burner.

First example message below. I've included the nessecary settings since we don't have any codebooks. First bit of "hash" at the top is the reflector in use, Kriegsmarine of course (Like the abbreviations we're using in this example). Information in parenthesis is a alternate showing of the information not in parenthesis.

Note: Long message appears broken. Apologies for that, I am unable to replicate a situation in which the long message decodes into plaintext English despite the amount of care taken with the plugsettings and message typing. Assume it is broken.

After careful checks, second message still functional. A glass of cold beer to the first to decode it.

Excellent find Pavel, will look into it more later when I have more time.

Bravo Zulu, trigger. I did mess up the first message pretty badly, so disregard that one.

Hehehe, it just took some patience to figure things out. Can imagine how it would be during an attack with depth charges :-)

I've been messing with it for a while now and without the benefit of good instructors and classroom instruction and that kind of thing. I'm finding it pretty intuitive now - I imagine any "Funker" would be pretty damn quick with his set.

Thing I'm finding hardest to remember are the Kriegsmarine codes. Other than that it's surprisingly simple.
