Hi Panther,
Thanks for posting. Good shot that one, with the commander's flagstaff
to the left of Prien and part of the torpedo loading apparatus to the
right of him. Can I ask how you loaded this image? Is it a
link to the photo somewhere else on the web?
Cheers,
Dougie

It's from somewhere on the web, I uploaded it to my computer, from there to www.photobucket.com then once it's in your photobucket album you just click on the picture and you'll get different ways to upload it, ie forums, e-mail etc, I just copy the one I want then come here to the forum and paste it in.
I've been tinkering for a month on how to do this, I'm pretty much computer illiterate, but getting better. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You can get set up at photobucket for free if you're interested.
I'll see if I can track down the picture, it's been a while.

Thanks, Panther. I'll do a test myself to see if I can load an image.
Cheers,
Dougie

Okay, that didn't work. The address of the photo on Photobucket is -
http://s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc118/dougie47/?action= view¤t=torpedo_stromness.jpg
It is a photo of the remains of one of the torpedoes fired by U 47 at
the Royal Oak. At the left are the prop blades of the torpedo. There
were 2 blades on each of the 2 pieces, which counterrotated to
alleviate torque. To the right is the gear mechanism. The curator of
the museum at Stromness in the Orkneys kindly allowed me to photograph
it. The piece was surprisingly heavy - way heavier than it looks. Quite
a piece.
Cheers,
Dougie

I get the little red box also, I just paste in next to it. I think you're close. When you try again use the "preview post" option that way you can see whats going on.
I wish I could be of more help to you Dougie, keep trying though.

Hi Dan,
I tried a number of times two weeks ago and couldn't get it to work. I
was about to throw the computer about the window as I couldn't see what
I was doing wrongly. I have tried the exact same method tonight
and it seems to load the images okay - not sure why. Glad I
didn't throw the computer out the window!
I'd recommend Photobucket for loading your photos to. It is free and
took me very little time to set up. Photos of your boat would be
most welcome.
Below is the photo of the U 47 torpedo I was talking about. Below that
is a photo I took of Kirk Sound, the channel U 47 used to penetrate
Scapa Flow. To the left is the island of Lamb Holm, to the right
is the mainland of Orkney. The causeway across Kirk Sound is one of the
four Churchill barriers built during the war to prevent further
incursions by enemy vessels.
Hopefully we can get more photos posted on the forums.
Cheers,
Dougie

Good show Dougie!! I had to fiddle around with it for a bit also so, I know all about that urge to chuck it out a window. You're next up to bat Dan.
