In the past whenever I constructed a U-boat model I would just use the plastic stand that came with it. The last time however I got a nice piece of wood, sanded it, stained it, and put a nice coat of varnish on. Then I took a couple of brass pedastels I've had lying around and mounted them and my boat (Revell 1/125 U-99) to my nice wooden base, and damn if it don't look pretty! It really makes for a far better presentation.
I'm now working on a 1/350 model of U-35 for this one however I bought a cheap model display case by Johann, it's made for car models but my boat will fit into it nicely. The hull is all resin so I plan to drill two small holes into the bottom of the boat and corresponding holes into the base and mount the whole thing on two brass rods. The best part of the Johann display case is the acrylic cover that will hopefully keep my model clean and dust free for years to come.
Does anyone have any other ideas for displaying U-boat models?
