Anyone going to build this monster? They have a write up about it in 'Fine Scale Modeler'. This kit is a whopping 52 inches long! I can honestly say I don't have the room to display the completed model. The hull is molded in six parts, fore, mid and aft sections molded in halves. The article says one 'con' of the kit is it's "large size can make it hard to handle"  It sounds like it's a nice build though and the finished model is of course impressive.

Hi!

Yes, I have one waiting on the shelve now. I have my 1/72   conversion  of U-47 to complete first.  You are right about the size! I am glad I have an office to put these large models in!

Regards,

 Hello All!

Progress report : 1/72 U-47 Project.

I am currently working on both hull sections. I am busy grinding and cutting out all the vents and exhast holes. I have the new cheek pieces installed to correct the Tropedo doors on the Boot. So far so good!

Hello All !

I can take some photos and download them on the site when you are ready!

At this point I am only working on the hull. It is not together yet. I have a long way to go before that happens.  There is much detail to do inside the hull before it goes together. Right now I am "eating plastic" grinding and cutting out all the vents and openings on both sides of the hull.  It is a boring job, but must be done to convert the Type C back to the Type B.  I also plan to convert the Boot to U-47's last configuration in 1941. So I will also have to do some major work on the Conning Tower to conert that to what I call a "Late B" with the tunnel air ducts on the Tower sides.  Should be interesting!!

Regards,
