Vincent Bonanno stopped to buy the tickets Monday at a
Food Lion in Apex, according to a Tuesday release from
the North Carolina Education Lottery. He scratched a $5
Bonus Bucks ticket in the store and couldn¡¯t believe how
much he won.
¡°I never expected it to be the $200,000,¡± he told
lottery officials. ¡°The first thing I did was I looked
at it, and then I held it to my heart and I looked up and
I said, ¡®Thank you.¡¯ I couldn¡¯t believe I won that
amount of money.¡±
As soon as he realized his ticket was worth $200,000 he
went home to tell his wife and daughter.He and his wife
then drove to the lottery headquarters in Raleigh and
took home $141,501 after taxes, according to the release.
Bonanno told his wife they were going to make a donation
to their church and buy a new car with the money.we¡¯re
going out to dinner tonight,¡¯¡± he told lottery
officials.
The couple had their celebratory dinner on Monday, the
release says.¡°I always said I was going to win,¡±
Bonanno told lottery officials. ¡°I said this day is
going to come sometime that I do win a big amount and it
did today.¡±Bonanno¡¯s win was the first top prize in the
Bonus Bucks game, the lottery says. There are five left.
