Seeing as how space was at a premium on board a U-boat, what would a U-boat mans kit consist of?

I believe the average crewman was allowed 4 changes of clothes.  One wash towel, one bar of soap.  They also had two changes of boots, and two or three hats. They aslo had thier "escape gear" and one set of  "oil skins " for bad weather.  They were not allowed razors, or cameras on board.  I hope that answers your question.

Regards,

Thanks Dan, one more question though. Where would they stow their gear? Did they have small footlockers or something along those lines?

 Hi Again!

Yes, they had small individual compartments to stow their gear.

Regards,

I have read that uniforms were generally not worn or carried aboard the Boot and that in particular, flannel (Checked & Plaid, apparently) shirts were popular.

 Hi ,

Yes,  They wore some personel clothes, but they did wear they mouse gray coveralls which kept them from getting too greasy.  A popular item was also the gray leathers which seemed to repel the dirt too.

Regards,
