 Hello all!

Just giving a progress report on my U-47 project.  I am having some trouble with the conversion of the vents from a type VII C back to the Type VII B. The vents on the starbord side are different than the port side.  The elimination of the vents and  widening of the open vent on the starbord side has been difficult to say the least. I had to use epoxy putty to get it right.  I hope to have some pictures ready by the weekend to bring up on this site.

Regards,

 Hello!

Have vents now done on U-47 Project. I am working on  getting weld lines redone to look more like real thing. The weld seams on the model are mere lines. I have not been able to get pictures on the Forum yet.  So I need some help. I have Windows XP and am using their system to sendpics. Still no luck getting on site with some photos. I need some help with that.

Regards,

Hi Dan

I dont think this site will host your photos. They need to be already online, then you can post the link.

You can upload your photos to photobucket.com after creating an account. Its free.

then, your photos will have there own links, which you can post here

Hope this helps, look forward to seeing your pictures

Hi Dan

If you use the FTP link I gave you, you should be able to upload images to the server using an FTP package or Internet Explorer itself. You can think link to the images. Moreover, things tend to disappear on Photobucket!

 More progress on U-47!

I have started to work on the Conning Tower. I have the basic tower together as it is in the Revell kit. However because I want to show U-47 in its last Patrol, I need to fabricate the air trunking on both sides of the tower. Any ideas on how to do this? Any helpful ideas would be nice! I also  need to  do some work on the tower details to convert it back to the Type B.

Thanks,

I'm no modeller, but I have heard it said that often you can acquire "plastic sheeting" (like sheet metal, it's a semi-rigid sheet of plastic) that you may be able to manipulate into the required forms and then there are a few different methods of attaching it to the base model - glue, carefully heating the plastic until they 'weld' together, et cetera.

 Thanks for the idea!

I will look into it. I am also thinking of using epoxy putty. This stuff is wunderbar! When it comes to making a shape or filling a large space. I used this to fill and refit the hull vents for the conversion from a Type C back to the Type B.

Regards,

Ah yeah! That's the other stuff, the epoxy putty. You may want to pick up some samples of both the 'sheet plastic' and the epoxy putty and figure out which one you like working with better, then go with that, or use a combination of the two depending on the kind of structure you need to build and how solid it needs to be - eg; if it were supporting another model or figurine's weight.
